Bright Kiddies

Our Privacy Policy

Bright Kiddies nursery policies and procedures apply to everyone visiting the setting whether it is staff, apprentices, and visitors, as well as children and parents, registered with or attending our setting. The policies provide essential support for staff when making decisions about the day-to-day routine and running of the nursery. Staff are given the opportunity to read through all policies and procedures as part of their induction programme to ensure they have understood what is required of them. All staff has a responsibility to ensure that all policies and procedures are always adhered to.

Our policy is reviewed annually, or when new legislation comes into place and will be amended accordingly. Staff is notified when a new policy is put in place. A folder of policies and procedures is kept in the office and a copy is also available in our parent board for parents and staff to access freely.  Also, a selection of our policies and procedure are sent to our parents through My Montessori Child’s system. New parents who enroll their children in the Nursery are made aware of their right to access these.  Below is a list of a few of our policies:

Safeguarding

Bright Kiddies Preschool is committed to working with parents/carers in an open, honest, and trusting way, and we strive to support families at an early stage before any difficulties being experienced reach the crises level.  We provide a safe, caring, and stimulating environment for children to play and develop.  It is our duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children in our care. Any concern in the nursery about a child is being discussed with the parents/carers and is treated sensitively and in confidence. We acknowledge that the child’s parents /carers provide ongoing care for the child, and we always work in partnership for the benefit of the child.

We ensure all staff, students, and volunteers are given written and verbal information on child protection procedures in form of pre-school policy, and the Department of Education’s “Keeping child safe in education” (March 2015). The pre-school staff has regular supervision sessions with the manager where any concerns regarding the care of any child can be raised and/or training needs to be discussed, however, the staff has a duty to raise concerns immediately this can be done confidentially.

Complaints

The Bright Kiddies Pre-School operates an open-door policy. Complaints either formal or informal in the notice of the manager or deputy will be taken seriously and addressed immediately. The management team will endeavour to make sure complaints are dealt with swiftly with professional care and discretion.

Allegation Against Staff

At Bright Kiddies Pre-School we pride ourselves in good child-centered practice ensuring that the interests of all parties are properly and fairly addressed It is evident that sometimes staff may be vulnerable to malicious or mischievous allegations or complaints; therefore, all such cases must be handled without bias with balanced approaches to arrive at a fair decision.

Whistle Blowing

Bright kiddies Preschool is committed to encouraging a climate of openness, and honesty, and working together in an environment that enables employees to raise concerns about all matters relating to service delivery in a responsible manner without fear of unfair treatment.

Inclusion and Equality

At Bright Kiddies Pre-School we will take great care to treat each individual with equal rights, whether they are adults or a child. The Pre-school is committed to providing equal opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice for all children and families according to their individual needs. Discrimination on the grounds of gender, age, race, religion or belief, marriage or disability, sexual orientation, gender, pregnancy or maternity, ethnic or national origin, or political belief has no place within our preschool.

Health and Safety Policy

Bright Kiddies Pre-school adheres to strict Health and Safety regulations as required. The pre-school is committed to the protection of the environment, and the creation of environmentally friendly work practices in all of our work settings.   We recognize and encourage the contribution every employee can make towards improving environmental performance within our services. We perform a daily risk assessment of the premises to ensure the environment is clean, safe, secured, and maintained throughout the day by members of staff.

Sickness and Illness

Our policy for the exclusion of ill or infectious children is discussed with parents. This includes procedures for contacting parents – or other authorized adults – if a child becomes ill while in the setting. We do not provide care for children, who are unwell, have a temperature, sickness, and diarrhea, or who have an infectious disease. Any sickness and diarrhea systems, children should be kept off for 48 hours until systems disappear.  We can only administer medication strictly on a doctor’s prescription with the parent’s consent.

Outdoor Environments

At Bright Kiddies Preschool we use outdoor exploration to educate children about the importance of life, living, nurturing, and caring. Children are actively involved in growing, loose part play, and risk-taking outdoors. At bright Kiddies Preschool, each child will begin to build an understanding and knowledge of Science and Outdoor Exploration. As science is a key part of a child’s entire educational journey, we believe in getting children off to a flying start and the outdoor environment is an area in which we encourage the children to feel and be free. Science is introduced indirectly and holistically, incorporated into activities within the typical nursery day both in and outdoors. We do this with investigations into the behaviour of objects, conducting experiments, exploring and discovering, and lastly presenting findings. Some examples of the skills children learn during science are prediction, observation, critical thinking, making decisions, discussion, and problem-solving, as well as self-regulation, boundary setting, and mindfulness whilst exploring outdoors. We use activities such as ‘my body’, ‘a plant’s life, and learning about where the food we eat comes from to support children’s understanding of themselves, their friends, plants, and animals.

Sickness and Medicines

Bright Kiddies Preschool aims to minimize the spread of illness or infection.  In the case of diarrhea or vomiting, children (or staff) are not permitted to return to nursery until 48 hours after the last episode.  In line with our sickness policy, we reserve the right to send home a child who is considered to be unwell, or with a high temperature of 38c+ or a contagious disease – this is in the interests of the sick child as well as those they come into contact with.  Children are required to be on a course of antibiotics for a minimum of 24 hours before returning to the nursery, no medicine will be administered to a child in our care unless it is prescribed by a doctor, for a current condition, with a dispensing label containing the child’s name and dosage details.  Calpol and teething gels will not be given to children unless prescribed by a doctor, although herbal teething powders are accepted.  Parents are asked to give signed consent for all short or long-term medication.  Emergency care will be sought in the event of not being able to contact a child’s parent or legal guardian or if deemed immediately necessary.

Our Team

Our established and dedicated team is committed to providing a warm, happy environment where children can develop their individuality and potential. Our team strives to get the best out of the children in our care by responding to their individual needs, building their self-esteem and their confidence to try, and employing them in interesting and challenging activities.  Our Staff are fully qualified and receive constant training courses to get them equipped with the current teaching approaches. We are committed to the best possible staff to provide parents the reassurance, knowing that their child is being cared for in a safe, healthy, and loving environment. We always looked to improve wherever and whenever we can and always have regular staff meetings and training; considering that by investing in our staff we will carry on building a committed, effective, and motivated team. We develop, promote, and keep all our staff up to date with current research, Early Years, and education trends; this enables them to implement the very best practice that training can empower them with and strive to ensure continuous improvements in standards and facilities for the benefit of our children.

Arrival and Collection

We welcome children into the nursery from 9 am.  We ask that parents adhere to opening and closing times as we are not registered/insured to care for children outside of these times.  The nursery reserves the right to charge for late collections – £5 for the first 5 minutes and £1 a minute thereafter.  Only named, authorized collectors on a child’s registration form will be permitted to collect that child. Advance notice and password are given to staff for someone else to collect a child.  In unexpected circumstances, parents can notify us by telephone, giving a password and description of unfamiliar collectors, or emailing a photograph.

Key Person

Bright Kiddies Preschool operates a key worker system. This ensures that each member of staff has a small number of children to relate to in an individual way. We feel that the benefits of this system are enormous. The transition from home to nursery is made easier if there is a relationship with one special adult in the group and there is no risk of a quiet or withdrawn child being ignored. Any difficulties or anxieties encountered by a child can be spotted quickly and parents have someone specific with whom to communicate. The key person system does not mean that the child will only become familiar with that member of staff; the preschool is run by a team of practitioners who are dedicated to the care and development of all the children. We implement regular progress meetings with a child’s Key Person.

Snacks/lunch Pack

At Bright Kiddie Preschool we provide a wide variety of healthy snacks these consist of a range of fruits, crackers, breadsticks, and rice cakes incorporating any special dietary requirements as well as favourite requests from the children!  In-line with our homely ethos, all staff eats with the children, ensuring a warm and sociable atmosphere. We advise the parent are encouraged to give their children healthy lunch packs. Drinking water is available at all times.

Our Curriculum

At Bright Kiddies Preschool, we believe that the development of children is achieved by making learning attractive and enjoyable. Children are inspired by adult-led and child-initiated activities, which not only include play but educational fundamentals as well. We follow a broad-based curriculum to ensure each individual child is supported and has a variety of opportunities to learn and develop in all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Accordingly, the EYFS Statutory Framework sets the foundation of our curriculum and provides challenges for each child individually whilst preparing them for school, with the aim ‘to bring play and teaching together.’  This is achieved by incorporating the Framework that sets out the three prime areas of learning that underpin everything in the early years: Communication and language, physical development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development, and The four specific areas that help children to strengthen and apply areas: such as Literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.
