My Montessori Child “is a web based early education system that allows staff to take record observations of the children and then gives them next step ideas and teaching plans. Parents are able to securely access their child’s records whenever they choose and be able to see clearly their activities, learning goals and progress and support their learning.
We understand the importance of children settling, feeling safe and comfortable in a new environment. Therefore, we work with parents/carers to devise a settling programme that caters for individual needs. All about me recorded in our electronic system help practitioners and parents share information such as children’s interests and needs. Each child is assigned a Key Person who has the main responsibility of caring, assessing and planning for them as well as building positive, working relationships with the child, parents and family. We aim to make our nursery as homely as possible to promote comfort and security together with a sense of belonging and trust for each and every child and parent.

In our nursery, we make whatever adjustments we can (while bearing in the mind the interests of all the children), in terms of routines and practicalities, to meet the individual needs, ability and disability of all the children, including those with SEND. We are proactive in working with parents, other agencies and the local authority to develop effective strategies and development plans and their involvement is always welcome.
Six weeks after entering the Preschool, children’s progress is monitored through our electronic system and these are available to parents for their contributions. Further review meetings are arranged every six months.
If there is any risk of delay after a particular review, individual Development Plan (IDP) is devised to incorporate both home and nursery and is reviewed every six weeks to ensure they are still current with effective strategies. More frequent reviews and IDPs are being undertaken where appropriate.
After a child’s second birthday, a Two-year Progress Report is put together. This is a statutory requirement of the EYFS and confirms a child’s readiness to engage with the Specific Areas together with planning/assessment in all seven areas of learning and development.
We have a named practitioner responsible for behaviour management in the nursery and we work with parents for consistency. Behaviour strategies exist in the preschool room and are age/stage appropriate as well as taking into consideration individual children’s understanding and needs. Through activities, circle times and good adult examples, our children learn to be caring, thoughtful and accepting of others. Children are involved in decision and rule making processes, giving them a sense of self-worth, ownership and inclusion – because of this, children’s behaviour is exceptional (Ofsted, 2015).
We welcome children into nursery from 9am. We ask that parents adhere to opening and closing times as we are not registered/insured to care for children outside of these times. The nursery reserves the right to charge for late collections – £5 for the first 5 minutes and £1 a minute thereafter. Only named, authorised collectors on a child’s registration form will be permitted to collect that child. Advance notice and password are given to staff for someone else to collect a child. In unexpected circumstances, parents can notify us by telephone, giving a password and description of unfamiliar collectors or emailing a photograph.
